Still We Sing, Still We Rise
A Musical Social Justice Celebration
introducing the 4th recording of
Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir
and commemorating the beginning of A Season for Nonviolence 2010
Saturday, January 23rd @ 7:00pm
(Doors will open @ 6:30pm)
Inner Light Ministries invites you to share in a musical evening of inspiration featuring Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir on Saturday, January 23rd. This concert launches Inner Light’s participation in the “Gandhi King Chavez Season for Nonviolence” that celebrates and advocates social justice and equality around the world.
“Still We Sing, Still We Rise”, the title of the musical celebration, is also the title of the
fourth recording by Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, which is scheduled for
national release on January 12th. The CD is a highly spirited and illuminating journey
that celebrates the rich musical heritage of the African diaspora with songs that proclaim
and celebrate Oneness, encourage standing for social justice and equality, and address the
continued pervasive presence of “isms” – i.e. racism, sexism, classism. A celebration of
authenticity and freedom, the CD contains plantation romps like “Little Rosie”, a funky remake
of Bob Marley’s “Get Up, Stand Up” and the satirical Cuban classic, “Si Dios Fuera Negro”
(If God Were Black).
In support of local efforts towards non-violence, a portion of the proceeds from this event
will be donated to Defensa de Mujeres, the only rape crisis center and domestic violence
emergency shelter in Santa Cruz County.

A Season for Nonviolence, which was co-founded 13 years ago by the
Association of Global New Thought (AGNT) and Arun and Sunanda Gandhi
of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, is an international 64-day educational,
media, and grassroots campaign. As a member of AGNT, Inner Light annually participates
in the Season for Non-Violence campaign that is dedicated to demonstrating that non-violence
is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower our lives and our communities. Inspired by
the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
the season begins on January 30th and ends on April 4th. This international campaign supported
by the United Nations honors their vision for an empowered, nonviolent world.
During the 2010 Season Inner Light will also be hosting renowned social anthropologist
and global transformational leader Riane Eisler for a
community wide engagement on February 27-28.
